Since 1982 Steve has consulted on over 550 golf courses in 29 states and 23 countries.
Past experience includes being the Southeastern Regional Agronomist with the USGA Green Section; a consulting Agronomist with Golfturf, formerly a division of Golden Bear International and Jack Nicklaus Design; and the Eastern Regional Agronomist for the former Cobblestone Golf Group from San Diego, California.
A Native of Oklahoma, following his Masters Degree from Oklahoma State University in 1977, Steve became a Research Associate for four years at Texas A&M University under Dr. James Beard. Steve went back to Oklahoma in 2009 to 2014 to become an Extension Assistant with Oklahoma State University’s Horticulture Department assisting with turfgrass cultivar evaluations and presenting turf management information to consumers.
Currently, Steve Batten & Associates Inc is utilized worldwide by Golfturf, now a division of Greens Management LLC, the Georgia Crop Improvement Association for their ITGAP Program, and Steve is often an associated expert with other consulting companies. Due diligence, capital expenditure reviews, insurance adjustments, soil and water relationships, as well as turfgrass pest management and maintenance issues for existing golf courses and those under construction are all active parts of Steve’s consulting experience.
As a scientific illustrator, Steve has illustrated six books on turfgrass including “Turf Management for Golf Courses”, and a book on golf course construction. His illustrations have been published in the Journal of the American Society of Botanical Artists, trade publications, and national magazines including “Business Week” and “Golf Digest”.
Steve is listed with the Roundtable Group in Washington DC as an agronomic expert for testimony, and is a Retired Educational Member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America.vvv
